Where and What is Galewood Montclare?

ImageThese two adjoining neighborhoods are located on the City’s far west side. The boundaries are Austin Avenue on the east (for Galewood), Narragansett Avenue on the east (for Montclare), Harlem Avenue on the west, North Avenue on the south and Belmont Avenue on the north. Galewood lies south of the bisecting railroad tracks, while Montclare is to the north. There are three Metra commuter train stations, including Mars, that serve our neighborhood.

A wide range of residential styles can be found, ranging from wood framed cottages, stucco bungalows and a few elaborate Victorians, to brick Chicago Bungalows, the numerous Romantic Revivals of the 1920s and 30s, and then some infill of postwar modern homes.  Galewood was named after Abram Gale, while Montclare was named for an East Coast town, reflecting the origins of Galewood Montclare’s first European settlers.
