Hello [FIRSTNAME],

This Saturday, October 25th is our next garden club meeting.  This may be the last of the season before we reconvene in January for our annual holiday party and set our sights on the new year.  This month's meeting will take place at the library (meeting flier):

  • Mark Brandhorst will summarize the summer Read Green Live Green talks on Aldo Leopold wilderness preservations and address the current bee epidemic with local beekeeper Duane Dupee.
  • We will also accept nominations for the 2009 garden club officer and advisory board positions (nominations due by November 10).  Elections are scheduled to take place between November 15 and December 1 by phone, by mail, and online (and email will be sent with an election ballot form).
  • Don't forget to collect your garden club yard sign if you haven't already.

News and Events:

The Lincoln Memorial Garden, an extensive site, was  planned by Jens Jensen to represent the environment as Lincoln would have known it. The Garden Clubs of Illinois have also donated the benches you see in the website photo.  Each bench has a statement by Lincoln related to Nature and the name of the club that donated it.  Didn't check on Galewood Montclare seating.  Sunset over Lake Springfield was spectacular; a stag came down to watch it in all his grandeur and even the ducks were quiet. The trails are well marked and the softest walk/run I think in the state.  Not far from New Salem, the working village that mayl be closing soon for budget cuts.

See you at the next meeting!
